Workshop with the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Mali
From 22 to 24 March, the Max Planck Foundation conducted a workshop in Bamako, Mali on the topic of "Principles of Interpretation: A Comparative Perspective". During the three days of the workshop, topics related to the roles of constitutional courts, general techniques of interpretation and the sources of constitutional interpretation were discussed in-depth. This workshop also addressed the more general question of the role of comparative constitutional law in the jurisprudence of various constitutional courts. In addition to that, the judges were introduced to accessing comparative legal research on online databases.
The workshop was formally opened by the President of the Constitutional Court, Ms. Manassa Danioko, and a representative of the Max Planck Foundation. This workshop marks the starting point of a series of workshops providing legal capacity building to the members of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Mali. The work plan was agreed between both the Max Planck Foundation and the Constitutional Court in a Memorandum of Understanding, signed in February 2017, in the framework of a project generously funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
