Fourth workshop with the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Mali
From 12 to 15 December, the Max Planck Foundation conducted a workshop in Bamako, Mali on the topic of "Fundamental Rights: Practical Aspects". The workshop was formally opened by the President of the Constitutional Court, Manassa Danioko, and a representative of the Max Planck Foundation.
The workshop is a follow up of the previous workshop which took place in November 2017 and dealt with fundamental rights from a more theoretical perspective. During the three days of the fourth workshop, several fundamental rights were examined in detail: freedom of expression, right to strike, property rights and principle of equality/non-discrimination. In addition to the presentations and discussions, the participants engaged in several case studies in order to get a better understanding of the legal practicalities of the protection of fundamental rights. Furthermore, the judges attended a training session on online legal databases of international and regional courts and bodies.
The workshop is part of a series of capacity building workshops for the members of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Mali. The cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Mali and the Max Planck Foundation is based on a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed in February 2017. The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
