13–16 June 2015: Amendment suggestions to the Afghan Constitution prepared
From 13 to 16 June 2015, two working groups of the Network of Afghan Constitutionalists, ‘Political Systems and Election Law’ and ‘Constitutional Interpretation and Adjudication’, gathered at the Max Planck Foundation to prepare suggestions for the reform of the Afghan Constitution. The two groups first of all discussed existing problems and then continued working on possible revisions. They presented their results to, inter alia, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rüdiger Wolfrum and Dr. Tilmann Röder who provided feedback on the possible solutions.
At the end of the workshop, the invited nine members of the network expressed their intention to incorporate the feedback and continue working on comprehensive proposals for amending the constitution in their groups. Additionally, they plan to draft a joint document that should eventually be considered in the constitutional reform process.
The participants of the third working group on ‘Decentralisation’ will convene in August 2015 in Heidelberg to likewise draw up suggestions for constitutional reform.
The project is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office.
