In December 2020, the Foundation launched its new project aimed at the legal training of legal personnel in cooperation with the Sudanese Judicial and Legal Sciences Institute and with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

Following the ousting of former President Omar Al-Bashir and his government, the Sudanese Republic has undergone historical changes since April 2019. During the transitional period, the mandate also includes the implementation of legal reforms aimed at rebuilding and developing the human rights and justice systems and ensuring the independence of the judiciary and the strengthening of the rule of law. In concrete terms, the Charter provides for a significant redesign in set-up, administration and oversight of the judiciary to ensure its full independence.

The project is therefore aimed at contributing to the advancement of the Sudanese legal system and the rule of law in the Republic with the increase of the technical legal capacities of representatives of the various legal professions and members of the legal institutions within the Sudanese legal system. The beneficiaries are thereby not limited to representatives from the capital, the project specifically seeks to address additional Sudanese regions such as Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile to ensure a widened support. The thematic areas to be addressed include rule of law standards, constitutional principles, international human rights standards, legal procedure and fundamental judicial principles to subsequently support and strengthen the respect and implementation of these standards and principles in the fulfilment of the various Sudanese legal professions.
