Preparations for Conference in Zimbabwe Have Been Started

Max Planck Foundation travels to Harare to initiate the conceptualisation of the conference on the new constitution and the rule of law in Zimbabwe

At the End of January 2015, the first preparation trip was made to Harare for specific planning and detailed conceptualisation of the conference on the new Zimbabwean constitution and the rule of law in Zimbabwe. It was here that representatives of the Max Planck Foundation together with the cooperation partner from the University of Stellenbosch met with the German Ambassador Ulrich Klöckner, the local implementation partner Southern Africa Political Economy Series (SAPES) Trust as well as with Zimbabwean representatives from academia, politics and civil society.

During the numerous talks, a list of participants was compiled and the themes for the individual rounds of discussions were determined. By holding this conference, it is hoped that an open exchange favourable to trust-building will be facilitated. It is also intended to make the results of the conference known in a manner which will raise public awareness.

A second preparation trip is planned for the start of March 2015.
