Max Planck Foundation extends its work to Somaliland
On 28 January 2018, the Minister of Interior of the Government of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and the Head of Sub-Sahara Africa Projects of the Max Planck Foundation, Kathrin Maria Scherr signed a memorandum of understanding for future cooperation. This cooperation is aimed at enhancing the capacities of the Ministry on issues of comparative public law related to the ongoing political decentralisation process in Somaliland.
The memorandum of understanding covers an eleven-month period and includes a number of capacity building workshops and advisory activities related to core questions of the political decentralisation process in Somaliland. These project activities will be facilitated though a Max Planck Foundation trained Somali Technical Adviser delegated to Somaliland’s Ministry of Interior.
Similar Memoranda of Understanding have already been signed with other project partner institutions under the project supporting political decentralisation and federalism in Somalia. The project is generously funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
