New Memorandum of Understanding Signed with the Upper House of the Somali Federal Parliament

Max Planck Foundation prolongs its collaboration with the Upper House in Somalia

On 5 December 2018, the Speaker of the Upper House, HE Abdi Hashi Abdullahi and the Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Projects of the Max Planck Foundation, Dr Kathrin Maria Scherr signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Mogadishu, Somalia allowing for a prolongation of the cooperation between the Upper House and the Foundation until December 2021. The new MoU covers a period of 36 months and includes a number of capacity building workshops and advisory activities related to the constitutional review and law-making processes in Somalia.

A similar Memorandum of Understanding had already been signed with the House of the People of the Somali Federal Parliament. Thus, the Foundation’s work at the Somali Federal Parliament is expected to continue for the next three years until the end of 2021 under the project “Legal Capacity Building and Technical Support for the Somali Federal Parliament”, which is generously funded by the European Union.
