As the highest Court of the newest member of the international community of nations, the Supreme Court of South Sudan is tasked with functioning as the constitutional court of the country (Article 126[2]) of the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan, 2011 (TCSS). In cooperation with the Supreme Court of South Sudan, and with the financial support of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Max Planck Foundation is implementing a two-component project to provide technical assistance to the South Sudan Supreme Court in discharging its responsibilities as the constitutional court of South Sudan. The first component involves a series of high-level seminars with the Justices of the Supreme Court of South Sudan to enhance their capacity to resolve constitutional disputes. The second component provides technical assistance to the Supreme Court in developing its Rules of Procedure. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the advancement of South Sudan as a peaceful, stable and democratic nation founded on the principles of constitutionalism, rule of law, and good governance.
