Meeting of the Discussion Group on Law & Development, Thursday 12 March

The right of victims of war to reparations in relation to Uganda’s upcoming transitional justice process

The meeting of the Joint Discussion Group on Law & Development took place at the premises of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law on Thursday, 12 March 2015.

Ms. Špela Kunej, Research Fellow of the Max Planck Foundation, presented her research on the right of victims of war to reparations in relation to Uganda’s upcoming transitional justice process. In particular, she compared the different approaches to reparations taken by the International Criminal Court in the Lubanga Case, the Trust Fund for Victims, and the government of Uganda. The comparison was made from the perspective of the victims and their needs, as well as the values of transitional justice, in particular reconciliation and non-repetition.
