Max Planck Foundation renews its cooperation agreement with the House of the People in Somalia
On 8 May 2018, the newly elected Speaker of the House of the People of the Somali Federal Parliament, H.E. Mohamed Mursal signed a renewed memorandum of understanding on the continuing cooperation with the Max Planck Foundation. The memorandum of understanding was countersigned by the Foundation’s Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Projects, Dr. Kathrin Maria Scherr.
Contingent upon funding, the Max Planck Foundation will continue to assist the House of the People of the Somali Federal Parliament with comparative legal research, advise and training in relation to the constitutional review and law- making processes in Somalia.
A similar Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Upper House of the Somali Federal Parliament earlier this year. The Max Planck Foundation’s current project to support the two Houses of the Somali Federal Parliament with legal advise and capacity building is generously funded by the European Union.
