Delegation from the Republic of Angola visits the Foundation

The visit was aimed at discussing future opportunities of collaboration in the area of the Law of the Sea between Angola and the Foundation.

On 7 and 8 January 2020, a delegation from the Republic of Angola led by HE Domingos de Carvalho Viana Moreira, Secretary General of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for the Delimitation and Demarcation of the Maritime Zones in Angola (CIDDEMA) and member of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS), met with Max Planck Foundation staff, including Managing Directors, Johannes Krusemark-Camin and Kathrin Maria Scherr.

The objective of the visit was to discuss opportunities for further cooperation between the two institutions in the area of the Law of the Sea. The meeting was also an opportunity to introduce the Foundation’s work in Africa and the relevant projects that are currently being implemented in other regions of the world, including the Maritime Governance Project for the implementation of UNCLOS in the Indian Ocean.

The two-day visit concluded with the willingness by both institutions to explore possibilities for formal collaboration on the Law of the Sea in the near future.
