The Foundation trains Legal Advisors for the Somaliland Parliament.
From 27 February to 1 March 2022, the Max Planck Foundation conducted the first Training-of-Trainers Workshop for Legal Advisors from the Somaliland Parliament in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
The Foundation conducted a three-day capacity building workshop for Legal Advisors from the Somaliland Parliament on the following topics:
- Working with Powerpoint and Improvement of Presentation Skills
- Different Legal Systems and Legislative Drafting Standards; and
- The Somaliland Law-making Process from a Comparative Perspective.
Research Fellows from the Foundation presented the workshop topics and prepared the training materials (PowerPoint Presentation, presenter’s notes, and a working group exercise). The training materials were sent to participants before the workshop to provide for study and reflection time. The participants actively engaged in the workshop and within the context of a Somaliland perspective, made suggestions to improve the training materials. The adjusted workshop materials will serve the Legal Advisors to conduct trainings on these topics for project partners in Somaliland, i.e. members of the Somaliland Parliament.
On the last day of the workshop, the Legal Advisors shared reports of their work in Somaliland and discussed future steps.
This Training-of-Trainers workshop is the first workshop to be delivered face-to-face in Hargeisa, Somaliland under a project generously funded by the European Union.
