Max Planck Foundation holds final legal seminar for Pakistani ulama
The Max Planck Foundation held a research seminar from 26 to 30 September 2016 for Pakistani Islamic scholars, known as ulama, on legal and Islamic law topics. The seminar aims to strengthen the participants’ expertise in international and constitutional law through collaborative learning that adopts an interdisciplinary approach.
After successfully completing the Max Planck Foundation’s seminars on Public International Law, International Constitutional Law and their relationship with Islamic Law, the participants presented their research topics. The topics presented all addressed both Islamic law and either international law or constitutional law standards with reference to, inter alia, fair trial rights, the right to health, the rights of refugees, criminal disenfranchisement and capital punishment. The research seminars adopted an interactive approach with peer-to-peer, as well as domestic and international expert feedback.
The research seminar is part of a programme aimed at the legal education of Pakistani ulama (2015 to 2016).
