Online book launch of “Fundamental Rights in Sri Lanka” by Dr Jayampathy Wickramaratne

The Foundation hosted the event with over 75 attendees

On 26 August 2021 the Max Planck Foundation hosted the book launch of the third edition of “Fundamental Rights in Sri Lanka” by Dr Jayampathy Wickramaratne.

Dr Wickramaratne is a well-known and respected academic and is one of the key architects of the Nineteenth Amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution and an expert for constitutional reforms, human rights, justice reform, and governance.

The Foundation would like to express its gratitude to Dr Wickramaratne and also to the fellow speakers at the event, namely Professor Eva Maria Belser (University of Fribourg, Switzerland), Professor N. Selvakkumaran (University of Colombo), and Saliya Peris, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.

Joshua Croos, a Master of Ceremonies at several events of the Institute for Constitutional Studies, opened and moderated the event. Saliya Peris gave a brief introduction followed by Professor Selvakkumaran who underlined the importance of the book for the understanding of the evolution of fundamental rights implementation in Sri Lanka and then provided an overview of the contributions of each chapter to the field; Professor Belser then elaborated on the relevance of the book to understanding and resolving current international human rights issues. Dr Wickramaratne concluded the event with words of gratitude to the many who helped with the research and publication of the book’s third edition. The book can be ordered online here.
