The Foundation trains Legal Advisors for the Somali Federal Parliament and the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs

Sixth and final Training-of-Trainers workshop

From 23 to 26 August 2021, the Foundation conducted a four-day virtual capacity building workshop comprising of topics including different legal systems and legislative drafting standards; resolution of conflicts between the two Houses of a Bicameral Parliament; and legal status, effect, and nature of rules of procedure.

Foundation research fellows presented the workshop topics and prepared the training materials. These materials had been sent to participants before the event to provide for study and reflection time. The participants were actively engaged and made suggestions to improve the training materials to better serve the Somali context. The amended workshop materials will assist the Somali legal advisors in conducting training on these topics for project partners in Somalia.

On the last day of the workshop, the advisors shared reports of their work in Somalia and discussed future steps. This Training-of-Trainers workshop is the second workshop to be delivered virtually in the Legal Capacity Building and Technical Support for the Somali Federal Parliament project generously funded by the European Union.
