Final legal capacity building workshop for members of the House of Representatives of the Somaliland Parliament
On 8 June 2022, the Max Planck Foundation organised the fourth and final legal capacity building workshop for selected members of the Somaliland House of Representatives and their legal support staff. The workshop addressed the topic Government Oversight Processes from a Comparative Perspective and was held at the premises of the Somaliland Parliament in Hargeisa.
The current European Union funded project of the Foundation envisages the development of four legal capacity building workshops for newly elected members of the House of Representatives of the Somaliland Parliament and their legal support staff. Each workshop includes presentations on the topic from a comparative perspective, a practical working group assignment and a plenary discussion. With the organisation of the fourth legal capacity building workshop this training program was successfully concluded in Somaliland.
The training programme for newly elected members of the Somaliland House of Representatives and their legal support staff was implemented from March to June 2022. The training programme addressed the following topics: Different Legal Systems and Legislative Drafting Standards; Somaliland Law-Making Process from a Comparative Perspective; Constituency Work and Public Outreach; and Government Oversight Processes from a Comparative Perspective.
The workshops were highly appreciated by the participants of the training program. The Office of the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives requested the Max Planck Foundation to provide more workshops in future.
