The Foundation kicked off its first event in Tajikistan

The Max Planck Foundation’s Central Asia team organised a working meeting with representatives from various Tajik agencies on countering the use of the internet for terrorist purposes.

On 6 September 2023, Foundation staff organised its first event on one of the three areas of planned cooperation with Tajik authorities. Identified during consultations with state officials in May, these areas correspond to the Strategy on Countering Terrorism and Extremism of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The working meeting is the first of a series of discussions on international law, including human rights law, and comparative examples related to the work of the Unified Information Center in Tajikistan. One of the focuses of the Unified Information Center is addressing crimes committed with the use of information and communications technologies.

The discussions during the event pave the way for future consultations and cooperation, as well as the provision of targeted legal support.

The meetings were part of the project Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration of Returning Foreign Fighters and their Families, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
