On 1 August 2024, the Max Planck Foundation commenced a new project in Sri Lanka entitled ‘Consolidating the Rule of Law in Sri Lanka: Strengthening the Resilience of Democratic Institutions to Promote Stability in the Face of Crises’.
Within the framework of the project, the Foundation aims to contribute to Sri Lanka’s stabilisation by promoting stakeholders’ ability to understand and perform their constitutional and legal roles during moments of crisis.
Building on the Foundation’s previous efforts in Sri Lanka, the project will feature several capacity-building activities focused on building skills for upholding human rights and strengthening judicial roles during challenging times. It also includes technical legal consultations for partners. Project activities continue collaboration with existing local partners, while also forging partnerships with new actors in the justice sector.
Generously funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, the project will continue until the end of 2025. More information can be found here.
