Foundation continues workshop series on constitutional law in Somaliland
The Max Planck Foundation concluded another series of workshops on constitutional law from a comparative perspective for members of the Somaliland Parliament. The workshops were organised under the framework of the project ‘Legal Capacity Building and Advice for the Legislative Branch of Government in Somaliland’.
Recently, another five legal capacity-building workshops were held for members of the Somaliland Parliament in Hargeisa on the topics of Independence of the Judiciary, Organisation of the Judiciary and Court Structures, Legislative Drafting, National Budget Processes and Adoption of International Treaties and Conventions. Each of the topics analysed the existing constitutional and legal framework in Somaliland and was reviewed from a comparative constitutional law perspective.
Participants hailed from both Houses of the Somaliland Parliament, i.e. the House of Representatives and the House of Elders. The participants particularly appreciated these workshops as platforms for the exchange of views and perceptions between members and staff from both Houses. Each workshop was chaired and attended by either the Speaker or the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The workshops were part of a larger legal capacity-building program, which is generously funded by the European Union.
