Provision of Human Rights Law Books to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka

On 4 March 2020, the Max Planck Foundation officially handed over human rights law books to the Programme Management Team of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, under the leadership of the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Mr Kalinga Indatissa PC.

The human rights law books will be distributed to 32 Bar Association Branches in all nine provinces across the country to ensure access to advanced literature on civil and political rights for lawyers in Sri Lanka. The provision of legal literature aims to encourage utilisation of the knowledge learnt at human rights workshops held by the Foundation and Bar Association of Sri Lanka in the daily work of lawyers across the country and support the sustainability of the project.

In this context, a series of six human rights workshops held from 2019 to 2020 with a focus on civil and political rights. The workshop series was held for lawyers from all nine provinces across Sri Lanka under the framework of the project “Capacity Building for Judges and Lawyers in Sri Lanka“, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. Following this highly successful cooperation, the Foundation and Bar Association of Sri Lanka are currently in discussions regarding the continuation of this project.
