Human rights webinar series in Kyrgyzstan

The Max Planck Foundation, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and local Kyrgyz organisations BIOM and ALGA, held a series of webinars on Kyrgyzstan’s treaty commitments.

The series consisted of five webinars, addressing various rights issues under the applicable international and national law.

In August and September 2023, the Foundation hosted a lecture and discussion series on human rights law and implementation in Kyrgyzstan. Although open to the public, each event was specifically tailored to civil society organisations active in human rights advocacy and promotion.

Each webinar had its own thematic focus, moving on from more general reflections on international human rights law and monitoring in Kyrgyzstan to three dedicated sessions on particular rights issues. International and Kyrgyz researchers provided participants with technical and practical information on the applicable rights framework concerning gender equality, the right to a healthy environment and privacy. Each session included ample opportunity for questions and debate, yielding lively discussions on each occasion.

The webinar series was part of the project ‘Monitoring for Justice – Strengthening Civil Society in Promoting Human Rights in Kyrgyzstan‘, supported by the European Union.
