The Editorial Secretariat of the Max Planck Yearbook of United Nations Law (UNYB) convened a special publication launch ceremony for Volume 27 of the UN Yearbook on Friday, 23 May 2025.
In coordination with the International Law Commission (ILC), the event was held at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Editorial Secretariat formally presented the first printed copies of Volume 27 to the ILC during this 76th session of its work. The Chair of the ILC for the 2025 session, Martins Paparinskis, received the copy on behalf of the Commission, while Arnold Pronto, Director of the Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations, received another copy on behalf of the ILC Secretariat. This was followed by an interactive Q&A session with attending members of the ILC on the continued role and relevance of the Commission. In addition to the formal launch of Volume 27, the event served to commemorate the work of the Commission over the years.
Released earlier this year, Volume 27 of the Yearbook features a special thematic forum titled “Assessing the International Law Commission: the Past, Present and Future”. Volume 27 boasts a collection of contributions from leading scholars and practitioners on the legacy, evolution, and continuing relevance of the ILC in international law. Several former and current members of the ILC contributed to this special volume of the UNYB.
Volume 27 of the UNYB is available online and in print. All article contributions within this volume are made available through open access on the Brill website for a limited period of time following the launch event.
